Week 40: Thursday, July 29, 2004 is almost here.

Your baby is about 8.0 lbs. in weight and 20 inches in length, if they haven't already delivered. After delivery and for approximately 5 minutes thereafter, Your baby will be assessed according to established criteria and given an APGAR Score. This is a standard way to measure the physical aspects of newborns.

Week 39: 1 Week or 14 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby is nearing 7.5 - 8.0 lbs. in weight and 19 - 20 inches in length, if they haven't already delivered and logged in their exact birth weight. Each day that passes gives your baby more time to get ready to meet Mom and Dad.

Week 38: 2 weeks or 21 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby has reached that 6.5 to 7 pound range and is 19.5 inches in length. You have been full term for a week now so you might want to start addressing those birth announcement envelopes while you still have your hands free. Your long wait will be over any time now.

Week 37: 3 weeks or 28 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby is considered a term pregnancy even though the 40-week mark is still 3 weeks away. Your baby is probably about 6 pounds and measures 19 inches in length. Your baby can't wait to meet "Mama" and share with you all the love they have to give.

Week 36: 4 weeks or 35 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby has taken on another half pound as mentioned last week and is around 5 lbs., 3 oz. your baby is around 18 inches in length and almost ready to check out of "Hotel Mom". In terms of location, your baby has moved downward towards your vagina, hopefully headfirst. However at this stage it is very common for babies to be feet first or "breech". It is not until labor begins that you can know for sure if there will be a need to turn the baby (ECV), or if your doctor will consider a cesarean delivery.

Week 35: 5 weeks or 42 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby weighs about 4 lbs. 10 oz. and will continue to gain about .5 pound per week until you deliver. Your baby stretches out to just under 18 inches as they approach full term. There is not really any development remaining for arms, legs, brain or organs. Stem cells continue to exist in the bone marrow, giving rise to red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets to maintain a healthy immune system. They will simply continue to grow in size as your baby readies for their debut.

Week 34: 6 weeks or 49 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby is tipping the scale at around 4 lbs. 8 oz. and is nearing the 17-inch mark. You may now be able to tell if it is a hand or foot pushing against your belly. Having Bob touch your belly and feel your baby's movements will be remembered as a very special time of sharing between them. It's a playful and loving way to let the two of them get to know each other.

Week 33: 7 weeks or 56 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby has now hit the 4-lb mark and is over 15 inches from head to toe. You are probably both very aware that it is getting more and more cramped in there. If your baby is going to be born a full head of hair, it's already there!

Week 32: 8 weeks or 63 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby weighs just under 4 lbs. and is about 15.5 inches from head to toe. The baby will continue to gain weight but more quickly now and will likely double in weight from this point, if you go to full term. To breast-feed or bottle feed newborns is a major point of debate among birth professionals and mothers. Breast milk contains a variety of components that, along with your baby's stem cells, maintain a healthy immune system.

Week 31: 9 weeks or 70 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby now weighs around 3 lbs. 6 oz. and is about 14.9 inches from head to toe, opening and closing their eyes and starting to get used to the world of light and dark. Facial muscles continue to strengthen and even in the womb your baby is making different expressions.

Week 30: 10 weeks or 77 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby now weighs around 3 lbs. and is about 14.5 inches from head to toe. Some ultrasound images will show Your baby yawning or even sucking their thumb! You also may notice that your baby does not move at all during your Braxton-Hicks contractions. This is because your muscles tighten and constrict your baby's movement. By now your baby is probably more used to Braxton-Hicks than you are.

Week 29: 11 weeks or 84 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby is now about 2 lbs. 10 oz. and is about 14 inches from head to toe, continuing to be active and growing more rapidly. Their kicks and punches, however, may feel lessened. This is because even though your baby is getting larger and stronger, they also have less space to gain momentum for these movements.

Week 28: 12 weeks or 91 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby is now about 2 lbs. 5 oz. and is a little under 14 inches from head to toe and has been gaining weight steadily during the past 27 weeks due to the stem cells developing into bodily organs, blood and immune systems, and bones. From this point forward, your baby's weight gain will be due to increasing amounts of body fat. Your baby's thin skin tissue is getting thicker. A general calculation to predict your baby's birth weight is the average of your and Bob's birth weight's.

Week 27: 13 weeks or 98 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby now weighs about 2 pounds and measures around 13.5 inches from head to toe. You know how your skin looks after you have been in water for 30 minutes, think about your baby's wrinkled skin! Your baby is fortunately protected from exposure to amniotic fluid by vernix. This white, fatty substance coats the body and protects the skin from long exposure to this fluid. Without vernix, 40 weeks would make your baby a very wrinkled little prune indeed!

Week 26: 14 weeks or 105 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby weighs about 1 lb. 13 oz. and measures around 13 inches from head to toe, and is gaining more awareness of their surroundings, hearing noise and respond to light. In the same way that you can see a flashlight if you hold it against your palm, your baby can see the light coming through your belly and uterus. You may notice increased activity when in brighter light and decreased activity in darkened rooms. Your baby's hearing is becoming more acute, which means they are likely to startle in response to a loud or sudden noise.

Week 25: 15 weeks or 112 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby weighs about 1 lb. 10 oz. and has probably reached 12 inches from head to toe. Your baby is becoming more durable as their stem cells continue to develop into bone tissue, and their bones become strengthened through a process called ossification.

Your baby is likely to be getting more and more active each day. A moving baby is a sign of a healthy baby. Your baby's gastrointestinal system is beginning to produce meconium. This is something you will become EXTREMELY familiar with once your baby has arrived.

Week 24: 16 weeks or 119 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Baby weighs about 1 lb. 6oz and is about 11.5 inches from head to toe. Your baby's nostrils are open and the movements that are practice for breathing outside the womb have begun. The lungs are secreting surfactant, the substance that keeps the moist, interior surface of the lungs from sticking to itself. your baby's visual and auditory systems are watching for light and listening to your heart beating and your stomach growling.

Week 23: 17 weeks or 126 days until Thursday, July 29, 2004.

Your baby now weighs a little over a pound, and is about 11 inches from head to toe. Almost a foot long! Your baby is continuing to develop their facial features. You are probably feeling a lot of movement as your baby is continuing to learn and assimilate their abilities in the comfort of their own personal,"living womb." Your baby now has eyes that open and close, ears that can hear, a thumb well worth sucking and lots and lots of hiccups.

baby pea weighs a little under 1 lb. (14 - 15oz.) and is about 10.5 - 10.8 inches from head to toe, and is growing eyelashes and eyebrows, which will be the main method of communication with you in terms of being happy, unhappy, confused or interested.
